Marriage

Christian weddings are a mixture of the holy, joyful, beautiful and prayerful. They are rooted in 2000 years of experience and made especially holy by the presence of Christ at the Wedding in Cana. You can read about this in St John`s account of the Gospel, chapter 2 verses 1-11.

As the wedding day itself then grows into marriage (when the real work begins!) the faith and life of the Church serves as a constant source of encouragement and guidance about the relationship which began with the words of the priest, “I therefore proclaim that they are husband and wife.”

As these photographs testify, weddings in Church are beautiful celebrations of the love between a man and a woman. Christian Marriage is what we call a “sacrament” of the Church. This means that it reflects a particular kind of love seen in Christ for what the Bible calls, “his bride,” the Church (Rev. 21.2). Couples married in Church provide their own families and neighbourhoods with a living reminder of a particular expression of the love of God.

From the joy created by this union of two lives, we see how, “it enriches society and strengthens community” (words from the Wedding Service). The marriage becomes a blessing for the area in which they live.
